A short-lived, but lively, sporting club along the banks of the Shawsheen River brought the community together.
I love the idea of revitalizing the Shawsheen to include a community meeting place!
It would be so good to reconnect to the beauty of the river. The Town of Andover is working on a master plan for the river and might still be taking input. https://andoverma.gov/1023/Shawsheen-River-Master-Plan
Yes, I have been to some of the meetings. The design concept is beautiful! More people from the town should attend.
Agreed!
I wonder if a of Niotus field exists in an archieve somewhere - ACHC? Phillips? Andover Peservation? Or maybe the town's archieve?
But I do like the idea of a sketch. Maybe with our Board dressed up in vintage baseball uniforms? Hey, just a passing thought...!
What a shame the Niotus Club was so short-lived. It could have altered today's landscape of the area.
I agree! They really made the place a community gathering place.
Who knew???
What a fscinating look into our past. One can close their eyes and just imagine a sunny, summer afternoon, enthralled with the gorgeous setting watching baseball and all the festivities. I did.
Terrific post, Elaine!
Thanks, Tom! It might be fun to ask a local artist to do a sketch for us.
More open space near the Shawsheen would be a good thing. I've never looked behind whole foods.
It's not an easily accessible area these days, but maybe it will be again some day.
