Fascinating post, Barbara. In my 28 years in Andover, I've driven by the part dozens of times and wondered how the playground came to be. Now I know...thanks to you're sharing its story.
Hope all's well in Andover. we're still adjusting to our new life in Texas!
For many years the playground was host to the DCS Summer Playground that was held at the schools and the Vale. When it rained we went in under the Community Center. Swings and seesaws were along the fence that kept us off the tracks. Every winter the basket ball court was boarded and flooded to make a skating rink. This kept many from skating on the River or Clarks Brook. Scout Troop 76 has held events there, and at least one Eagle Scout Service Project to repair and paint the shed and former sandbox.
Now I know why all the ride on toys are there. The playground is very popular. Thanks for the stories, Barbara

What a wonderful place, so filled with stories from the past that will hopefully inspire and intrigue parents and storytellers in the years to come!

Craig, thank you for this information. I will add this to our files at the history house.
