I’m trying to reach Barbara Bunn, I’m working on a video documentary of west elementary school and I have a few questions. My email address is seanmurphy331@gmail.com
I remember when the land was taken, but I don’t remember the house itself. I spent a good deal of time at the Stowe School when it was the school department’s administration building. Thanks for the story.
What a fascinating story, Barbara! For years we past these steps wondering what they once led to. Some15 years ago we found out. We hired a local contractor, William Hurley, to renovate our kitchen and add a second floor bathroom. Turned out that Bill is a third generation Hurley and lived in the house as a youngster! Now we know the larger story. Thank you!
Hi Barbara. My home at 4 Rocky Hill was built and owned by Justin Carter. The Carter family’s history is fascinating. Many of the children were born blind - were part of the earliest classes at Perkins and one of them went on to teach at Philips. Your files have some first hand accounts from (I’m fuzzy here) the Perkins founders?
Eileen, thank you for the information about the Carter Family. You can access more information about the Carter family from the Andover Preservation website---preservation.mhl.org. Emily wrote an article about her family for the Perkins School. Emily lived at 153 Main St. She also wrote an article "A Walk up From Punchard Ave to Wheeler St in 1850". The history center probably has a copy of both articles. If you can't find them online call the History Center and we will help you . Barbara

I assumed those steps were access to the soccer field and nothing more.
A fascinating, bittersweet tale of a house and the families who lived there.
