When I was a child the back yard of our Maple Ave home abutted the back yard of her Elm St home. If she was 28 in 1906 she would've been well into her 80's at the time. I remember her working in her garden. The flowers were beautiful. One day my brother and I squeezed through the fence to pick some of the wild flowers growing on her side. I didn't see a shotgun, but she had the both of us by the nape of our necks and made us pick up debris from her yard. Scared us to death... we never did that again.

Charming travelogue, and kudos for inserting postcards of the period from the Smithsonian!! Now I want to follow Bessie's itinerary. Thanks so much.

Angela, this was great. I'm looking forward to more about Bessie. I shared this with my uncle in Florida who worked for Bessie at her home on Elm St when he was in a student at Andover High School.

We had a scheduling oops with this one. It was supposed to go out Monday, July 5, but accidentally went out today. We'll resend it Monday to stick with our Monday/Wednesday schedule. Thanks for reading! ~Elaine
