Barbara, Thank you for sharing the reminder of Memorial Day. Yes, I also remember "Decoration Day" and glad the name change was made. I am so grateful for everyone who has served in our armed services and pray for those who have lost their loved ones.

Thank you for the photographs of the flagpole dedicated to my father and brother. Both were patriots who served in the military. Dad was an officer in the army during World War II and George served in Vietnam as an enlisted man. Both of them lost close friends in those wars. My brother is named after Dad's best friend who was killed during an invasion of North Africa. Each of them participated in Andover's Memorial Day celebrations and soon my brother's ashes will be buried at Spring Grove Cemetery; the town cemetery, which has a section for Andover's veterans.

Priscilla, thank you for this information. With your permission I would be glad to add this information to the story. I believe that we graduated from Andover High School together in 1968. I hope all is well with you.

Just finished reading your post as I sit the pool here in Georgetpwn, Texas - our new home. This is the first Memorial Day we missed the celebration in Andover in 27 years. It was always something we looked forward to.

Wonderful post, Barbara!

In regard to Decoration Day, please find a copy of a beautiful story written and published by Col. Harold P. Sheldon and published by the Derrydale Press in 1936. It takes place in a small Vermont town called Tranquility Township on the southwestern side of Lake Champlain. If tou would like a copy of “Not Without Honor” please email me at dsromig@aol.com and I will send it to you. Yoh will love it, I guarantee.
