Combining the Stowe and Brickstone trees in one narrative is a true Christmas gift. Thank you. Having seen the Brickstone trees in their glory, I must agree that "magical" is the right description.
Thanks Jane. Your tree stories have been very interesting. We now feel part of that history having enjoyed several of the Brickstone tree lightings starting when we moved here in 1993. The tree lighting was a magical evening for the kids and made Andover feel like our hometown.
Thank you, Jane. I recently read the story of Harriet Beecher Stowe and her time in Andover. This account adds much more to understanding her and what she held dear.
I will never forget the trees at Brickstone in the nineties. The sight of them from 495 and from up close is a lifetime memory. You’ve awakened a cherished Andover recollection just in time for Christmas.
Great arboreal tales. I wonder, though, whether the 50 foot dimension of the Brickstone Christmas tree was a circumference rather than a diameter. It was an enormous and beautiful tree nonetheless.
Gag gifts and a newfangled Xmas tree? HBS was badass. Good for her.
Badass women of Andover . . . sounds like the start of a History Buzz series to me!
I certainly hope so! They must be thick on the ground in your part of the world. 😂

Hope we’ll see more stories from you!

Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas.
