This is a great story. Your research and information was very interesting. I wish more of these stories would be the norm. Thank you for sharing this with others....
Just finished this truly remarkable story. You completed what could have been a sad, unfinished ending to a person’s life and fulfilled his wish to honor his wife with a headstone. How perfect that her stone was part of their home’s foundation. Thanks for all your efforts which must be very satisfying.
Saw this at midnight, last night - did a "like," but wanted to comeback today. These are some very interesting stories. Not only are Ann and Alexander allowed to rest in peace, but the Cohen house has been allowed to have a new beginning. Quite the research, Jim. Keep on writing!
What a great story about Alexander Cohen - I find these old Andover stories fascinating & how wonderful he and his wife are together (with meaningful headstone) in West Parrish - my family is also buried there & it’s such a lovely place to visit…
It is so rare that someone takes the initiative right a wrong history left in its wake. Thank you Jim for being that guy. Somewhere up above Alexander & Ann are surely looking down and smiling.
Susan & I often walk through West Parish Garden Cemetery. We will find their gravesite and simply say "hello" and that you, your home and your lives are remembered a century and a half after you took your last leave.
Thank you. Jim, for your efforts. Each one of us matters. It's terrible that Alexander was grieving alone (or seemed to be). I am glad that we are more compassionate and aware of mental health issues now-a-days.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words and remarks. It has been a long journey to get to this point. In the beginning I thought we would inscribe the back of Alexander's stone with Ann's information. That all changed when I found Alice Bell's stories. Best regards to you all.
History is made up of individual stories - unique but gathered together making an interesting, sometime fun, sometime sad history. Thank you for sharing the Cohens' story and for making it a happy ending. What makes it so special, is that it is an "every person" story - not a famous or politican but a real person like my neighbor or the person across town or me, just trying to make it in the world. Bravo for telling it and reminding us that each of us counts.
Jim, Nice piece of research! I witnessed the reconstruction of the Cohen House on Lovejoy and now it's good to know the story behind the home and who lived in it. You brought its history to life. Much appreciated.
Jim, this is such a compelling story and so well told. You were the person who made this gravestone project for Ann Cohen happen. The Preservation Commission worked to save the Cohen's home and you were involved all along the way. This is such a gratifying conclusion to this couple's complicated life. Mr. Cohen would be very pleased, I'm sure. Well done!
This is a wonderful story, Jim. I had a recent conversation where the house at 147 Lovejoy Road was discussed. I didn’t have all the details but knew there was history to the building. Now I know the story of the Cohens thanks to you. Thank you.
Lealand, Thank you for your kind comment. It took a long time for this story to play out, but worth every moment along the way.

Nicely done, always wondered about that house and why it was moved.
Thank you Debbie, It was a journey I was very happy to share. I met some wonderful people along the way.

Thanks Larry! It has taken me 12 years to get this done. Worth every minute of the journey!
