I love this particular story, definitely one of my favorites! Brings back memories of my dad who traveled extensively during his Ford Motor Company career. He always brought home match books. After he died, I kept the huge (no exaggeration!) glass bowl filled to the brim with match books. For the next decade or so I moved them with us as our careers took us coast-to-coast. Finally, here in Andover, I turned them over to the town fire department for disposal. Oddly, I do miss having them. They were a touchstone to my misguided youth - and my dad. Great post, Marilyn!!!

Thanks for your comments. It was a trip down memory lane for me to see the matchbooks posting. It was fun to write then and fun to read now.

I like it. I have one from my wedding, but it has no Andover provenance except for the missus and me.

Awww, I love that story, Jim. Funny that's a wedding favor that's out of favor now.

A striking and illuminating piece of history (sorry, couldn't help myself). Well done.

That's the perfect "Dad joke," Roland! Thank you for sharing it.
