The events of last week have shaken our nation and community to the core. We acknowledge that as a country, community and as an organization we have work to do.
We at the Andover Center for History and Culture believe Black Lives Matter.
We acknowledge that the study of history has not equitably collected, preserved, or shared the stories of people of color and other marginalized populations.
We will work hard to do better for our community to collect and share the stories of all people in Andover and that of the greater Merrimack Valley area.
We strongly believe sharing our stories helps build stronger, engaged communities. Our stories help us know each other.
As we continue to do this work we want to share with you some resources from local and national museums and cultural institutions that we look to.
National Museum of African American History and Culture
Royal House and Slave Quarters, Medford
Museum of African American History, Boston and Nantucket
Boston African American National Historic Site
African American Trail Project, Tufts University
We will continue to serve our mission to seek out and share the stories of Andover residents whose lives were undocumented, untold, or erased. If you have a story to share please reach out to us. We would love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Elaine Clements, Executive Director and
